The earliest English poem that we have may be said to be Caedmon's Song or Hymn, composed in the 7th Century and set down in the 8th Century in the Venerable Bede's History of the English Church. The story of how the unlettered labourer Caedmon was struck with the power of writing verses in praise of the Christian God in the style of the old pagan poetry is a lovely and intriguing one. A 'dream visitor' challenges the reluctant Caedmon to sing. Michael brings this event alive in the tones and tonguings of the time as part of his 'archaeological' working through the layers of English Poetry. |
Michael's poetry and music is different; it is beguiling, and it is true. He and his poetry bag are for hire, bookings are currently being taken for the coming year. Michael
